Resident Service Engineer – Germany

Centrax Germany are seeking a resident Gas Turbine Service Engineer to assist with all aspects of service and maintenance activities to ensure the highest quality of support for the customer at all times.

The role is global, multi-disciplined, and includes mechanical, electrical and electronic skills. The work is usually carried out at the customer’s site, so the engineer must be able to work on his own initiative and with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Attending site to carry out regular maintenance inspections
  • Fault diagnosis and repair on all Centrax supplied equipment
  • Maintaining a good working relationship with the customer
  • Preparation of accurate reports and timesheets using the current Centrax system
  • Work within the current quality management system requirements
  • Supervision, control and development of other engineers
  • Assisting the CS supervision to plan. Prepare and delegate work
  • To set a good example at all times to other engineers
  • Perform global commissioning activities

Knowledge & Skills

Skills:

  • Demonstrate the necessary skills to carry out the following tasks
  • Annual and intermediate maintenance inspections
  • Engine removal and installation, including calibration and performance test
  • Engine strip, repair and rebuild to turbine 2nd stage vane level
  • Replacement of any engine bearing
  • Cold Commissioning activities for Centrax Packages
  • In depth fault diagnosis and repair on any Centrax supplied equipment
  • Basic fault diagnosis and knowledge on equipment not supplied by Centrax but associated with the CHP installation
  • Vibration survey on engine, gearbox and generator, the analysis of the results, and the recommendation of any corrective action as necessary
  • Complete service reports and timesheets correctly, completely, and in a timely manner
  • Correct use and control of the Centrax stock system
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Centrax Intranet
  • Ability to adequately plan and prepare for allocated tasks both for yourself and for others
  • Supervision and control of sub-contractors, to ensure that the work is completed to the necessary quality standard and timescale
  • Carry out performance assessments on other engineers
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks

Knowledge:

  • Principles of a gas turbine
  • Principles and advantages of CHP installations
  • Centrax unit and engine control systems
  • Commissioning procedures
  • Generator control and protection
  • Methods and systems of emissions control
  • Understand the differences between various maintenance contracts and the resulting consequences for both the customer and Centrax
  • Demonstrate a willingness and ability to pass on knowledge and experience to other engineers
  • Understand the Companies' Policies on health & safety, quality, and the environment and ensure that other Centrax employees work within these policies
  • Be aware of the health & safety of yourself and of others, and be able to identify hazards and act to reduce risk
  • Be able to carry out a risk assessment and prepare a method statement, and be able to train others in these tasks

  • Self Motivation: Respond positively, and show adequate self motivation to requests and tasks detailed by service supervision
  • Flexibility: Show flexibility to respond effectively to unplanned events such as breakdowns and sudden workplan changes
  • Teamwork: Demonstrate the ability to work well in a team and encourage co-operation in others, but also be able to work independently when required
  • Timekeeping: Maintain prompt timekeeping at all times when both attending site and in Centrax, including overseas Depots
  • Appearance: Maintain a smart and professional appearance at all times when on company business, especially when on site, but also in Centrax or Depots.
  • Behaviour: At all times when on company business, demonstrate an acceptable level of professional and mature behaviour
  • Conduct: Ensure that the Centrax Handbook guidelines on conduct are followed at all times

Leadership

  • Demonstrate a willingness to accept responsibility
  • Show a high degree of self-motivation and the ability to motivate and encourage others
  • Assist the CS Supervision with the delegation and allocation of work
  • Supervise and control sub-contractors, to ensure that the work is completed to the necessary quality standard and timescale
  • Represent the company when on site, and to advise and help the customer on technical, operational, and invoicing issues
  • At all times, set a good example of behaviour and conduct to other engineers
