Test & Commissioning Technician

Centrax are seeking a Test & Commissioning Technician to carry out all aspects of Testing and Commissioning of equipment at Centrax and customer sites Worldwide; Conduct maintenance of associated facilities and equipment to ensure the accurate delivery of the Test & Commissioning process to the highest standards.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • As a Test & Commissioning Technician, you will demonstrate a willingness to learn and to accept responsibility. You must demonstrate the ability to work well in a team, encouraging co-operation in others but also be able to work independently when required.
  • With adequate training you will be responsible for conducting product testing and site commissioning activities at Centrax and customer sites worldwide in accordance with procedures, specifications, and regulations ensuring the successful handover of equipment to Centrax’s customers. This will include both electrical and mechanical aspects of testing, cold and hot commissioning of various gas turbine packages and associated equipment validating equipment and ensuring compliance with customer requirements.
  • Have a flexible attitude towards working location and working hours, global travel to client sites as and when required to meet agreed deadlines. You will be expected to travel overseas to commission products on-site and support customer site acceptance tests.
  • Working with the Test, Installation & Commissioning Manager to prepare and then to diligently follow detailed Test & Commissioning schedules and programmes.
  • Be responsible for the accurate documentation of test results, collating them into respective databases and/or communication to respective parties promptly.
  • Be responsible for the preparation and to diligently follow risk assessments and method statements for Test & Commissioning activities.
  • Identify and initiate non-conformances found throughout the process and communicate via the appropriate systems (Faults Database, NCR) ensure acceptable and meaningful preventative actions are implemented to further enhance product development in terms of reliability, cost reduction, Health & Safety etc. Utilise feedback regarding issues with products, practices, and procedures for continuous improvement.
  • Undertake a wide variety of activities, prioritising workload to meet changing work schedules in a rapidly changing environment, ensuring that the work is completed to the necessary quality standard and timescale.
  • Be responsible for monitoring work areas and plant for maintenance and calibration ensuring availability. Conducting maintenance and calibration activities following procedures, documenting, and reporting results; improving practices and identifying areas for improvement.
  • To attend and participate as appropriate in various virtual and in-person meetings to ensure requirements are understood and met.
  • To take responsibility for Health & Safety and Environmental issues concerning testing and commissioning ensuring procedures are followed, actively promoting safe working practices.
  • Be responsible for the review and amendment as appropriate, processes and documentation to provide continual improvement to working practices, processes, and overall efficiency.
  • Provide remote assistance to field service engineers and other commissioning engineers where required.
  • As a representative of Centrax with direct contact with clients, you will be expected to always act professionally and maintain a good working relationship with the client’s representatives. Given the remote nature of some of the sites, self-reliance and self-motivation are a prerequisite

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge and experience in the test and commissioning of gas turbine packages and installations.
  • Multi-disciplined qualified engineer, HNC/HND or degree in an engineering discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent communication, and organisational skills
  • Ability to understand technical electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Excellent fault-finding skills on both electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • PLC control code understanding (Allen Bradley RS Logix is preferred)
  • SCADA understanding (Wonderware preferred)
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Ability to carry out the following tasks with adequate training. (Not exhaustive): • Gas turbine performance test requirements • Understanding of Gas turbine and ancillary equipment operation and control • Generator protection testing • Vibration and fault diagnosis of rotating equipment • Communications protocols, Profibus, Ethernet, Modbus etc.

Salary will be dependent on experience and is non-commission based. A company car is not offered with this role.
