Test & Commissioning Engineer

A multi-disciplined qualified engineer with extensive knowledge and experience in the test and commissioning of gas turbine packages and installations is required to carry out all aspects of testing, commissioning, and maintenance of equipment at Centrax and customer sites worldwide to ensure the accurate delivery of the Test & Commissioning process to the highest standards.

Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills are a requirement along with a flexible attitude towards working locations and hours as the postholder is expected to travel extensively overseas to global customer sites to commission products on-site. This post will be Newton Abbot site based when not required to travel. Start date will be subject to successful pre-employment screening.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct product testing and site commissioning activities at Centrax and customer sites worldwide in accordance with procedures, specifications and regulations ensuring the successful handover of equipment to customers. This will include both electrical and mechanical aspects of testing, cold and hot commissioning of various gas turbine packages and associated equipment, validating equipment and ensuring compliance with customer requirements. Monitoring work areas and plant for maintenance and calibration to ensure its continued availability. Conduct maintenance and calibration activities as required, documenting and reporting results.
  • Demonstrate leadership, a willingness to accept responsibility and the ability to supervise and develop other engineers. Demonstrate the ability to work well in a team, encouraging co-operation in others but also being able to work independently when required.
  • Prepare and diligently follow detailed Test & Commissioning procedures, programmes, risk assessments and method statements for Testing & Commissioning activities. Accurately document test results and collate them in respective databases and/or communicate promptly. To review and amend as appropriate processes and documentation to provide continual improvement to working practices, processes, and overall efficiency.
  • Identify and initiate non-conformances found throughout the process and communicate via the appropriate systems (Faults Database, NCR) to ensure acceptable and meaningful preventative actions are implemented, ensuring continuous improvement in terms of reliability, cost, maintainability and health & safety.
  • Undertake and manage a wide variety of activities, prioritising workload to meet schedules in a rapidly changing environment, including the supervision and control of on-site sub-contractors to ensure that work is completed to the necessary quality standard and timescale. To attend and participate as appropriate in various virtual and in-person meetings to ensure requirements are understood and met.
  • Provide product-related training and coaching to other members of staff and customers. To provide remote assistance to field service engineers and other commissioning engineers where required.
  • To take responsibility for Health & Safety and Environmental issues concerning Testing and Commissioning ensuring procedures are followed, actively promoting safe working practices.
  • As a representative of Centrax with direct contact with clients, you will be expected to always act professionally and maintain a good working relationship with the client’s representatives. Given the remote nature of some of the sites, self-reliance and self-motivation are a prerequisite.

Essential Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience in the Test and Commissioning of gas turbine packages and installations.
  • Multi-disciplined Engineer with HNC/HND or degree in an engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to understand technical electrical & mechanical drawings with excellent fault-finding skills. PLC code (Allen Bradley preferred) and SCADA platform (Wonderware preferred) development experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with gas turbine and ancillary equipment operation and control, generator protection, gas turbine performance validation, vibration analysis/fault diagnosis on rotating equipment.
  • Strong computer literacy with knowledge of communications protocols such as Ethernet, Modbus etc.
  • Well informed regarding Health and Safety legislation and requirements.
  • Full driving licence valid in the UK and Passport valid for travel.

Salary will be dependent on experience and is non-commission based. A company car is not offered with this role.
