Electrical Engineer

Centrax are seeking an Electrical Engineer who will work as part of the engineering team based in Newton Abbot on design of equipment for gas turbine generator sets for both project and baseline developments. The work is varied and includes work on design of LV and MV systems, PLC and HMI programming, plant design, etc.

You will be responsible to the Engineering Manager to deliver Engineering solutions within a professionally managed level of risk to meet project, business and contractual requirements to the defined budget and schedule. Engineers are technically accountable to the Engineering Manager through the Principal Electrical Engineer.

This role would suit an engineer with Electrical design background, preferably in power generation equipment.

Prime accountabilities include:

  • To be the Electrical Engineering focal point for the assigned aspects of an allocated Project.
  • To take ownership for the professional delivery of Project tasks.
  • To take ownership for the professional delivery of other tasks including baseline tasks under the guidance of the relevant Lead and or Principal Engineer.
  • To deploy engineering processes, methods and tools and ensure that these are consistently applied across projects.
  • To deliver Engineering project requirements that meet the needs of interfacing functions as well as project contractual and business requirements.
  • To ensure the flow down, change control and integration of engineering project plans to result in a co-ordinated approach to project delivery.
  • To manage project and technical risk providing risk mitigation plans where required.
  • To provide all necessary evidence and documentation to support the requirements of the Project, certificating authorities, directives and standards.
  • To work with technical interfaces (internally and externally) to ensure that all engineering project issues are completed prior to the installation phase.
  • Establishing the Electrical Engineering plan to meet the Project requirements.
  • Ensure delivery of the Engineering plan to schedule.
  • Provide performance data to meet Project KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators).
  • Where an engineer has project ownership, ensure that work carried out by other team members meets business and professional standards.
  • Where an engineer has project ownership, ensure that work carried out by other team members is completed on time.
  • To provide project programme updates and/or metrics as necessary with detailed recovery action where required.
  • To ensure that all technical direction/ decisions made gives due consideration to the available budget.
  • Identify risks associated with the Project and establish and deliver mitigation plans where required.
  • To deliver projects to allocated budget and schedule
  • To provide technical assistance, guidance and where appropriate fully worked solutions to interfacing functions.
  • Provide training and share knowledge with other members of the team where required.

Responsibilities include:

  • To provide support and represent the Engineering Manager, Principal Electrical Engineer and other members of the engineering team as required.
  • To support others in the immediate team and the Engineering function to deliver their accountabilities.
  • To contribute to Engineering function metrics, providing detailed recovery action where required.
  • To assist with compliance with the Centrax Quality Management System.
  • To assist with the development and deployment of continuous improvement to support Project and business objectives.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential:

  • Have a proactive approach to problem solving with the ability to plan ahead.
  • Be able to meet deadlines and respond to changing priorities.
  • Be a good communicator.
  • Have the ability to work under your own initiative to work as part of a multi-disciplined team.
  • Have the ability to undertake short overseas visits.
  • Have experience of PLC and HMI programming.
  • Be computer literate in the use of Microsoft Office in particular Outlook, Word, Excel and Autodesk suite of products.
  • Have a degree in a relevant engineering subject.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working with power generation equipment and or rotating machinery.
  • Experience with Syteline.
  • Ability in a second European Language.
  • Chartered or working towards Chartership.
  • A minimum of 10 years relevant engineering experience.
