Quality and Improvement Engineer

Centrax are seeking a Quality and Improvement Engineer to provide an efficient and effective service to the Quality Department based at our site in Newton Abbot.
The role is clearly focused on maintaining and enhancing the quality and performance of the companies products, processes and services, specifically;
To develop and improve quality assurance systems and processes within Centrax and our suppliers, and to audit to ensure conformance.
To conduct appropriate inspections on equipment at Centrax, customers and suppliers sites to ensure compliance to requirements.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Integrated Management Systems Assist in developing and improving the procedures, processes and specifications as required to ensure conformance to ISO9001, ISO14001 & ISO45001 and customer requirements, and to ensure compliance to all applicable regulations. Conduct supplier and internal audits as directed, to maintain and enhance our ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001 and PED approvals, utilising the audit System.
  • Inspections As directed, conduct inspections at Centrax, customers and suppliers sites in accordance with procedures, specifications and regulations ensuring the equipment meets all requirements, that results are accurately compiled and documented, the data is entered into the respective databases and all required parties informed in a timely manner. Issues that cannot be resolved must be clearly identified and communicated to the various parties utilising the appropriate systems (Faults Database, NCR) so that they can be resolved in a timely and professional manner. Communicate issues found to all interested parties to further develop the product and/or process in terms of reliability, maintainability and cost. To attend and participate in relevant meetings and visits to ensure that the customer and engineering requirements regarding product performance and specification are understood and communicated to all parties prior to any manufacture, testing and inspections. Manage non-conformances found throughout the process to ensure all issues are resolved and acceptable and meaningful corrective actions are implemented. Utilise feedback regarding issues at site that could potentially be resolved prior to delivery, thereby continuing to identify opportunities to improve and develop our procedures and processes.
  • Improvement Activities Lead and manage cross departmental continuous improvement activities, utilising tools and techniques such as A3 and 8D, to identify root cause and corrective actions.
  • Supplier Development Work with other departments, to manage the supply chain to both meet and exceed our customer expectations regarding supplier approvals, quality and delivery of equipment and documentation. As directed, ensure that the supplier documentation meets all Centrax and customer requirements.
  • Workplace issues To take responsibility for Health & Safety and Environmental issues with regards to inspection and for ensuring that procedures are followed. In particular, the various supplier inductions. Ensure that all nominated equipment is maintained in accordance with procedures. Understand and ensure compliance to the regulatory issues within nominated working areas.
  • As directed, provide training and coaching to other members of staff, suppliers and customers. To similarly ensure that other members of the quality team are kept abreast of procedures and practices.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential:

  • HNC/HND or degree in an Engineering discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Computer literate in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Business improvement techniques advantageous
